Psalm 72

1 Give the king your justice, O God,     and your righteousness to the royal son! 2 May he judge your people with righteousness,     and your poor with justice! 3 Let the mountains bear prosperity for the people,     and the hills, in righteousness! 4 May he defend the cause of the poor of the people,     give deliverance to the children of the needy,     and crush the oppressor! 5 May they fear you while the sun endures,     and as long as the moon, throughout all generations! 6 May he be like rain that falls on the mown grass,     like showers that water the earth! 7 In his days may the righteous flourish,     and peace abound, till the moon be no more! 8 May he have dominion from sea to sea,     and from the River to the ends of the earth! 9 May desert tribes bow down before him,     and his enemies lick the dust! 10 May the kings of Tarshish and of the coastlands     render him tribute;     may the kings of Sheba and Seba     bring gifts! 11 May all kings fall down before him,     all nations serve him! 12 For he delivers the needy when he calls,     the poor and him who has no helper. 13 He has pity on the weak and the needy,     and saves the lives of the needy. 14 From oppression and violence he redeems their life,     and precious is their blood in his sight. 15 Long may he live;     may gold of Sheba be given to him!     May prayer be made for him continually,     and blessings invoked for him all the day! 16 May there be abundance of grain in the land;     on the tops of the mountains may it wave;     may its fruit be like Lebanon;     and may people blossom in the cities     like the grass of the field! 17 May his name endure forever,     his fame continue as long as the sun!     May people be blessed in him,     all nations call him blessed! 18 Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,     who alone does wondrous things. 19 Blessed be his glorious name forever;     may the whole earth be filled with his glory!     Amen and Amen! 20 The prayers of David, the son of Jesse, are ended.

Psalm 119:73-96

73 Your hands have made and fashioned me;     give me understanding that I may learn your commandments. 74 Those who fear you shall see me and rejoice,     because I have hoped in your word. 75 I know, O Lord, that your rules are righteous,     and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me. 76 Let your steadfast love comfort me     according to your promise to your servant. 77 Let your mercy come to me, that I may live;     for your law is my delight. 78 Let the insolent be put to shame,     because they have wronged me with falsehood;     as for me, I will meditate on your precepts. 79 Let those who fear you turn to me,     that they may know your testimonies. 80 May my heart be blameless in your statutes,     that I may not be put to shame! 81 My soul longs for your salvation;     I hope in your word. 82 My eyes long for your promise;     I ask, “When will you comfort me?” 83 For I have become like a wineskin in the smoke,     yet I have not forgotten your statutes. 84 How long must your servant endure?     When will you judge those who persecute me? 85 The insolent have dug pitfalls for me;     they do not live according to your law. 86 All your commandments are sure;     they persecute me with falsehood; help me! 87 They have almost made an end of me on earth,     but I have not forsaken your precepts. 88 In your steadfast love give me life,     that I may keep the testimonies of your mouth. 89 Forever, O Lord, your word     is firmly fixed in the heavens. 90 Your faithfulness endures to all generations;     you have established the earth, and it stands fast. 91 By your appointment they stand this day,     for all things are your servants. 92 If your law had not been my delight,     I would have perished in my affliction. 93 I will never forget your precepts,     for by them you have given me life. 94 I am yours; save me,     for I have sought your precepts. 95 The wicked lie in wait to destroy me,     but I consider your testimonies. 96 I have seen a limit to all perfection,     but your commandment is exceedingly broad.

Leviticus 19:1-18

1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Speak to all the congregation of the people of Israel and say to them, You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy. 3 Every one of you shall revere his mother and his father, and you shall keep my Sabbaths: I am the Lord your God. 4 Do not turn to idols or make for yourselves any gods of cast metal: I am the Lord your God. 5 “When you offer a sacrifice of peace offerings to the Lord, you shall offer it so that you may be accepted. 6 It shall be eaten the same day you offer it or on the day after, and anything left over until the third day shall be burned up with fire. 7 If it is eaten at all on the third day, it is tainted; it will not be accepted, 8 and everyone who eats it shall bear his iniquity, because he has profaned what is holy to the Lord, and that person shall be cut off from his people. 9 “When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap your field right up to its edge, neither shall you gather the gleanings after your harvest. 10 And you shall not strip your vineyard bare, neither shall you gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard. You shall leave them for the poor and for the sojourner: I am the Lordyour God. 11 “You shall not steal; you shall not deal falsely; you shall not lie to one another. 12 You shall not swear by my name falsely, and so profane the name of your God: I am the Lord13 “You shall not oppress your neighbor or rob him. The wages of a hired worker shall not remain with you all night until the morning. 14 You shall not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block before the blind, but you shall fear your God: I am the Lord15 “You shall do no injustice in court. You shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor. 16 You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not stand up against the life of your neighbor: I am the Lord17 “You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but you shall reason frankly with your neighbor, lest you incur sin because of him. 18 You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

1 Thessalonians 5:12-28

12 We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, 13 and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. 14 And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all. 15 See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies, 21 but test everything; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil. 23 Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it. 25 Brothers, pray for us. 26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss. 27 I put you under oath before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers. 28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

Matthew 6:19-24

19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, 23 but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! 24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
