Psalm 72

1 Give the king your justice, O God,     and your righteousness to the royal son! 2 May he judge your people with righteousness,     and your poor with justice! 3 Let the mountains bear prosperity for the people,     and the hills, in righteousness! 4 May he defend the cause of the poor of the people,     give deliverance to the children of the needy,     and crush the oppressor! 5 May they fear you while the sun endures,     and as long as the moon, throughout all generations! 6 May he be like rain that falls on the mown grass,     like showers that water the earth! 7 In his days may the righteous flourish,     and peace abound, till the moon be no more! 8 May he have dominion from sea to sea,     and from the River to the ends of the earth! 9 May desert tribes bow down before him,     and his enemies lick the dust! 10 May the kings of Tarshish and of the coastlands     render him tribute;     may the kings of Sheba and Seba     bring gifts! 11 May all kings fall down before him,     all nations serve him! 12 For he delivers the needy when he calls,     the poor and him who has no helper. 13 He has pity on the weak and the needy,     and saves the lives of the needy. 14 From oppression and violence he redeems their life,     and precious is their blood in his sight. 15 Long may he live;     may gold of Sheba be given to him!     May prayer be made for him continually,     and blessings invoked for him all the day! 16 May there be abundance of grain in the land;     on the tops of the mountains may it wave;     may its fruit be like Lebanon;     and may people blossom in the cities     like the grass of the field! 17 May his name endure forever,     his fame continue as long as the sun!     May people be blessed in him,     all nations call him blessed! 18 Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,     who alone does wondrous things. 19 Blessed be his glorious name forever;     may the whole earth be filled with his glory!     Amen and Amen! 20 The prayers of David, the son of Jesse, are ended.

Psalm 111

1 Praise the Lord!     I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,     in the company of the upright, in the congregation. 2 Great are the works of the Lord,     studied by all who delight in them. 3 Full of splendor and majesty is his work,     and his righteousness endures forever. 4 He has caused his wondrous works to be remembered;     the Lord is gracious and merciful. 5 He provides food for those who fear him;     he remembers his covenant forever. 6 He has shown his people the power of his works,     in giving them the inheritance of the nations. 7 The works of his hands are faithful and just;     all his precepts are trustworthy; 8 they are established forever and ever,     to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness. 9 He sent redemption to his people;     he has commanded his covenant forever.     Holy and awesome is his name! 10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;     all those who practice it have a good understanding.     His praise endures forever!

Psalm 113

1 Praise the Lord!     Praise, O servants of the Lord,     praise the name of the Lord! 2 Blessed be the name of the Lord     from this time forth and forevermore! 3 From the rising of the sun to its setting,     the name of the Lord is to be praised! 4 The Lord is high above all nations,     and his glory above the heavens! 5 Who is like the Lord our God,     who is seated on high, 6 who looks far down     on the heavens and the earth? 7 He raises the poor from the dust     and lifts the needy from the ash heap, 8 to make them sit with princes,     with the princes of his people. 9 He gives the barren woman a home,     making her the joyous mother of children.     Praise the Lord!

Isaiah 28:9-22

9 “To whom will he teach knowledge,     and to whom will he explain the message?     Those who are weaned from the milk,     those taken from the breast? 10 For it is precept upon precept, precept upon precept,     line upon line, line upon line,     here a little, there a little.” 11 For by people of strange lips     and with a foreign tongue     the Lord will speak to this people, 12 to whom he has said,     “This is rest;     give rest to the weary;     and this is repose”;     yet they would not hear. 13 And the word of the Lord will be to them     precept upon precept, precept upon precept,     line upon line, line upon line,     here a little, there a little,     that they may go, and fall backward,     and be broken, and snared, and taken. 14 Therefore hear the word of the Lord, you scoffers,     who rule this people in Jerusalem! 15 Because you have said, “We have made a covenant with death,     and with Sheol we have an agreement,     when the overwhelming whip passes through     it will not come to us,     for we have made lies our refuge,     and in falsehood we have taken shelter”; 16 therefore thus says the Lord God,     “Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion,     a stone, a tested stone,     a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation:     ‘Whoever believes will not be in haste.’ 17 And I will make justice the line,     and righteousness the plumb line;     and hail will sweep away the refuge of lies,     and waters will overwhelm the shelter.” 18 Then your covenant with death will be annulled,     and your agreement with Sheol will not stand;     when the overwhelming scourge passes through,     you will be beaten down by it. 19 As often as it passes through it will take you;     for morning by morning it will pass through,     by day and by night;     and it will be sheer terror to understand the message. 20 For the bed is too short to stretch oneself on,     and the covering too narrow to wrap oneself in. 21 For the Lord will rise up as on Mount Perazim;     as in the Valley of Gibeon he will be roused;     to do his deed—strange is his deed!     and to work his work—alien is his work! 22 Now therefore do not scoff,     lest your bonds be made strong;     for I have heard a decree of destruction     from the Lord God of hosts against the whole land.

Revelation 21:9-21

9 Then came one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues and spoke to me, saying, “Come, I will show you the Bride, the wife of the Lamb.” 10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, 11 having the glory of God, its radiance like a most rare jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. 12 It had a great, high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and on the gates the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel were inscribed— 13 on the east three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates, and on the west three gates. 14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. 15 And the one who spoke with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city and its gates and walls. 16 The city lies foursquare, its length the same as its width. And he measured the city with his rod, 12,000 stadia. Its length and width and height are equal. 17 He also measured its wall, 144 cubits by human measurement, which is also an angel's measurement. 18 The wall was built of jasper, while the city was pure gold, like clear glass. 19 The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with every kind of jewel. The first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst. 21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl, and the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.

Luke 1:26-38

26 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin's name was Mary. 28 And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!” 29 But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. 30 And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” 34 And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” 35 And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. 36 And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. 37 For nothing will be impossible with God.” 38 And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
